An Introduction to Kanopy

Kanopy is a streaming platform that features more than 30,000 films. Kanopy's offerings include feature films, independent films, classic films, world cinema, The Great Courses, television series, and documentaries.

How to use Kanopy

1. 1. Find your library's landing page, either via direct URL (https://ashburnhamlibrary.kanopy.com) or by using the branch locator tool.
2. 2. Enter your library card and password in the authentication form.
3. 3. When you clear authentication, you create a new Kanopy account by supplying an email address and password (as well as first and last name).
4. 4. Following account creation, you will be directed to the landing page for your Kanopy platform, where you can start watching titles.

Every time thereafter, you will need to Log In to your Kanopy account by supplying your email address and password. You will be prompted to reauthenticate every 30 days when you press "Play" on a title.

Library patrons receive 10 Play Credits per month. Please note that as soon as you click play on a movie, a play credit is deducted.

You can create Clips and Playlists in Kanopy.

Kanopy works on PCs with Flash, iPads, iPhones, and mobile devices. Kanopy is compatible with these devices:

Note: Kanopy does not allow you to download content.

Simultaneous Devices

Kanopy allows you to stream on an unlimited number of devices. Each viewing will count against your play credit limit for the month (except for Kanopy Kids content).

There are no restrictions on sharing your account.

Kanopy for Kids

Kanopy includes Kanopy for Kids with content for pre-kindergarten ages and older. Kanopy Kids offers TV shows, movies, read-alongs, and more. Parents and caregivers can stream videos from a curated selection of educational and enriching videos on Kanopy Kids with developmentally appropriate, age-based ratings from Common Sense Media.

Parents can set a four-digit pin to prevent kids from viewing a title that has not been approved for viewing in Kanopy Kids. While in Kanopy Kids Mode, Watchlists and Viewing Histories will automatically be filtered to show only age-appropriate content.
